The Lamp

Where the light begins.™

The Lamp is the account where your income arrives and your real life gets paid — housing, food, utilities, transportation, insurance, the basics. Not the fun money. Not the investing money. The cost of keeping the lights on.

If you feel stuck paycheck to paycheck — or you’re self-employed and every month feels like a tightrope — The Lamp is usually the first number that needs to move. Bring living expenses down toward half of what you keep after taxes, and you create margin: margin to fix the problem, margin to raise income on purpose, margin to fill the jars without pretending.

The rule

Keep The Lamp at 50% or less of your net income. That line is The Transformation Milestone. Cross it, and the other half of your money is free to multiply, enjoy, learn, save, and give.

Voices who lived the principle

This idea did not start with a spreadsheet. People who built real wealth — and people who took God at His word about giving — have practiced some version of the same move: keep the cost of living from consuming the whole harvest.

Myron Golden

In From the Trash Man to the Cash Man, Myron Golden popularized a plain idea many builders already knew in their bones: put about half of what you keep toward living expenses — the bills — so the rest of your money isn’t trapped in survival. Firefly calls that container The Lamp.

J.C. Penney

James Cash Penney built a business on the Golden Rule and a life marked by generosity. He is remembered for giving extravagantly from what he earned and living simply enough that giving could lead — a lived echo of Scripture’s invitation to test God in the tithe and trust Him with the increase (see Malachi 3:10). The Lamp makes that kind of obedience possible: when living expenses are contained, generosity is no longer a crisis decision.

Truth is not only found in church history. Sometimes it shows up in plain talk from someone who built an empire outside the sanctuary — and the money principle still holds.

Master P

Percy “Master P” Miller has spent decades teaching ownership over paycheck-chasing — build something that feeds your family beyond a single check. In talks many of us have heard, he points to living on half as a practical key to freedom.

What this means for you

Whether you are paycheck to paycheck, self-employed, or running a business that still feels like a tightrope: bring The Lamp down. That is often the first step — not because half is magic, but because margin is how you solve money problems and how you grow income without every dollar already spoken for.

A word from Delyce

When I first sat down and honestly measured my own Lamp, I was at 122% — living expenses were running past my income. I am telling you that on purpose. The 50% line is a destination, not an entrance exam. If you are over 100%, you are not disqualified. You are exactly who this page is for. Start where you are. Measure it. Then walk it down.

What The Lamp is not

It is not a jar. It is not a budget app lecture. It is the living-expense container — the foundation under Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

You don’t have to guess whether debt and living costs are dimming your light. Start with a free check.
